Samsung Washer EA — Motor position / clutch error

Samsung Washer · Error code EA

What EA Means

The control couldn't detect the motor's rotor position at startup or during a phase transition. Often a hall sensor problem or a stuck clutch/coupling on direct-drive top-loaders.

Symptoms

  • Drum doesn't agitate or spin
  • Loud buzz at start
  • Code appears within seconds of pressing Start

Common Causes

1
Failed hall sensor

Same root cause as Sr/3E — position feedback missing.

2
Stuck mode-shifter / clutch (top-load)

Direct-drive shifter doesn't engage spin vs wash mode.

3
Damaged rotor magnets

Rotor fractured from a hard load impact.

4
Failed inverter PCB

Cannot commutate the BLDC motor.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug for 5 minutes and try a Rinse+Spin with the drum empty.
  2. Remove the rear/back panel and inspect the rotor and stator for cracks, dust, or rub marks.
  3. On top-loaders, listen for the shifter solenoid clicking when the cycle starts — replace shifter if silent.
  4. Test the hall sensor harness and replace the hall sensor if reseating doesn't help.
  5. If parts test good, replace the inverter PCB.
