What E5 Means

Generic exhaust thermistor circuit fault reported by the control. The board can't get a usable reading from the exhaust sensor and pauses or aborts the cycle.

Symptoms

  • E5 displays
  • Cycle aborts unexpectedly
  • Heat not engaging on sensor cycles
  • Repeated beeps with E5

Common Causes

Failed exhaust thermistor

Out-of-range resistance (open or short).

Loose harness at the sensor or board

Vibration walks the connector off.

Bare wire intermittently touching frame.

Board ADC channel intermittent.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the dryer.
  2. Inspect and reseat both ends of the exhaust thermistor harness.
  3. Measure thermistor resistance — replace if not roughly 10K ohms at room temp.
  4. Re-route any chafed wires and protect with electrical tape.
  5. Reassemble and run a heated cycle.
  6. If E5 returns, replace the main control board.
