GE Dryer E2 — Inlet thermistor shorted
GE Dryer · Error code E2
What E2 Means
The inlet temperature sensor is reading a short (near 0 ohms), so the board sees an impossible temperature. The dryer will stop heating to prevent runaway temps.
Symptoms
- E2 on display
- Cycle aborts shortly after start
- No heat or very low heat
- Dryer reports done immediately
Common Causes
Internal element shorted, often after a heat event.
Sensor wires shorted to chassis where they pass through sheet metal.
Conductive lint paste across the spade terminals.
Board ADC input stuck reading short.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the dryer.
- Access the inlet thermistor at the heater housing.
- Measure thermistor resistance — should be ~10K ohms cold. Near 0 ohms = replace.
- Inspect harness for chafe points; reroute and tape any bare wire.
- Clean lint and corrosion from the connector with a contact cleaner.
- Reassemble, restore power, and run a heated cycle. If E2 persists with a verified-good thermistor, replace the main control board.
