LG Dryer nP — No power detected at heater
LG Dryer · Error code nP
What nP Means
nP indicates the main control sees no current flowing through the heater circuit when it should be energized. On 240V electric models this usually points at a power-supply problem rather than the element itself.
Symptoms
- nP on display
- Drum tumbles but stays cold
- Recently installed or moved
- Dryer working on a generator or sub-panel
Common Causes
Half of the 240V supply is missing — tripped half of a double-pole breaker, or one leg of the cord disconnected.
30A double-pole breaker partially or fully tripped.
Cord wire backed out or terminal scorched.
Element coil failed open.
Safety device tripped from prior overheat event.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the dryer and shut off the 30A breaker.
- Test the outlet with a multimeter: ~240V across the two hots, ~120V from each hot to neutral.
- Remove the terminal cover and verify all three or four wires are tight on the block.
- If voltage and wiring are good, access the heating element and measure resistance — typically ~10 Ω; infinite means replace.
- Test the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat for continuity; replace any open one and address the airflow restriction that caused the trip.
- Reassemble and verify heat returns on a Timed Dry cycle.
