LG Dryer AE — Compressor / heat-pump system fault

LG Dryer · Error code AE

What AE Means

AE (sometimes grouped with LE2/CE1 on heat-pump models) indicates a fault in the compressor/heat-pump system that produces drying heat. The cycle is aborted to protect the sealed system.

Symptoms

  • AE on display
  • Cycle ends with damp clothes
  • No warm air from drum
  • Loud hum or buzzing from the dryer base
  • Unit recently transported

Common Causes

1
Compressor not settled after move

Refrigerant migrated; needs upright settle time.

2
Failed start device

PTC relay or start capacitor failed.

3
Compressor overload tripped

Thermal overload opened.

4
Sealed-system leak

Loss of refrigerant charge.

5
Inverter / main board fault

Board not driving compressor.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the dryer and let it sit upright undisturbed for at least 4 hours (24 hours if it was on its side).
  2. Restore power and run a Timed Dry; listen for compressor start.
  3. If AE returns, access the compressor compartment and test the start device per service manual.
  4. Verify inverter board outputs to the compressor are within spec.
  5. Suspected refrigerant loss or compressor failure must be handled by an EPA 608-certified tech.
  6. Contact LG service with model/serial if DIY checks do not resolve.
