Whirlpool Oven F3E1 — Oven temperature sensor shorted
Whirlpool Oven · Error code F3E1
What F3E1 Means
The control sees the oven temperature sensor circuit as shorted. The oven will refuse to heat to protect itself.
Symptoms
- F3E1 on display
- Oven won't preheat
- On double ovens the code may specify the lower cavity
Common Causes
Internal short in the RTD reads as zero or near-zero ohms instead of ~1080.
Insulation worn through against the cavity back lets the two leads touch.
Damaged input on the EOC can latch a sensor-short fault.
How to Fix It
- Cut power at the breaker.
- Unplug the sensor connector at the rear of the cavity and measure across its pins — ~1080 ohms at room temperature is normal; near 0 ohms means replace the sensor.
- Check the sensor harness for pinch points, melted insulation, or staples through the wire.
- Replace the sensor (and any damaged section of harness) and reconnect.
- Restore power and run a 350F bake test to confirm the cavity reaches temperature.
- If F3E1 returns with a good sensor and harness, replace the electronic oven control board.
