Whirlpool Oven F2E6 — Shorted keypad
Whirlpool Oven · Error code F2E6
What F2E6 Means
The control reads two keypad lines as electrically connected when they shouldn't be — a short inside the membrane. The keypad must be replaced.
Symptoms
- F2E6 on display
- Multiple keys unresponsive or trigger the wrong function
- Keypad surface may feel swollen or wet underneath
Common Causes
Boil-over, cooktop steam, or spray cleaner under the membrane bridges the trace layers.
Adhesive between layers fails and traces touch.
Closing a panel on the ribbon can short adjacent lines.
How to Fix It
- Kill power at the breaker.
- Access the back of the keypad and inspect the ribbon for pinch damage at the panel edge.
- If the ribbon is good but F2E6 persists, replace the keypad.
- After replacement, run a power-on test and press each key once to confirm a single beep per press.
- Avoid spraying cleaner directly onto the keypad in the future — wipe with a damp cloth instead.
