Whirlpool Microwave F8E5 — Exhaust Air Temperature Sensor Fault
Whirlpool Microwave · Error code F8E5
What F8E5 Means
The control cannot read the exhaust air temperature sensor (or door-position sensor on some firmware variants). Common after a hot, greasy cook cycle that loads up the exhaust path.
Symptoms
- F8E5 on the display
- Microwave aborts mid-cycle
- Vent fan runs but heating is interrupted
- Door reads closed but unit still throws the code
Common Causes
Most common — sensors fatigue from heat and grease.
Heavy grease load skews the reading; clean filters and vents.
Check both ends of the harness for backed-out pins.
On firmware where F8E5 covers door sensing, inspect latch hooks and switches.
How to Fix It
- Power down at the breaker for 1 minute and retest.
- Pull the charcoal and grease filters; degrease the vent path. Run a 5-minute fan-only cycle and recheck.
- Unplug the unit and access the top of the cavity per the tech sheet.
- Reseat the exhaust air temperature sensor connector. If the code remains, replace the sensor.
- If the sensor and wiring check out, inspect door latch hooks and interlock switches for the door-sensor variant of this code.
