Whirlpool Microwave F5 — Shorted Humidity Sensor
Whirlpool Microwave · Error code F5
What F5 Means
The humidity sensor circuit has been shorted for more than 5 seconds. Older OTR fault chart; on newer models the equivalent is F4E4 or F5E0/E1.
Symptoms
- F5 on the display
- Sensor cook modes fail
- Microwave still cooks manually
Common Causes
Heat and grease eventually short the element.
A wire pinched at install can short to the cabinet.
Less common; verify the sensor and wiring first.
How to Fix It
- Power-cycle at the breaker for 1 minute.
- Unplug the microwave and disconnect the humidity sensor; the F5 should clear with the sensor disconnected.
- Check the sensor wiring along its full length for melted insulation or pinches.
- Install a new humidity sensor and retest a sensor-cook cycle.
- Replace the electronic control only if a new sensor and harness don't clear the code.
