Whirlpool Dryer F70 — Main Control to User Interface Communication Loss

Whirlpool Dryer · Error code F70

What F70 Means

The main electronic control board (ECB) is not communicating with the user interface control board (UICB). The console may freeze, only partly light, or refuse to respond.

Symptoms

  • F70 on display
  • Console unresponsive or partially lit
  • Cycle won't start
  • Dryer powers on but nothing else works

Common Causes

1
Loose communication harness

The cable between the main control and the user interface has worked loose or one pin is bent.

2
Failed user interface board

The UICB has lost its ability to talk on the comm bus.

3
Failed main control board

The ECB's comm circuit has failed.

How to Fix It

  1. Shut off the breaker for 5 minutes, restore power, and try a Timed Dry — many F70 cases clear with a hard reset.
  2. If it returns, unplug the dryer and open the top console.
  3. Disconnect and reseat the ribbon / wire harness between the main control and the user interface board.
  4. Inspect both connectors for bent pins, corrosion, or burned spots.
  5. If the harness is good and the code persists, replace the user interface board first (cheaper and more commonly the cause).
  6. If F70 still appears after a known-good UI, replace the main electronic control board.
