Whirlpool Dryer F02 — User Interface / Keypad Failure

Whirlpool Dryer · Error code F02

What F02 Means

The main control thinks a keypad button is stuck or the user interface board is not responding correctly. The dryer often beeps constantly and may refuse to start a cycle.

Symptoms

  • Constant beeping from the console
  • Buttons unresponsive or one button reads as pressed
  • Cycle won't start
  • F02 flashes on the display

Common Causes

1
Stuck button

A button is mechanically jammed in the pressed position from spilled detergent or a worn keypad membrane.

2
Failed touch panel / user interface board

The capacitive or membrane keypad has failed and is sending a continuous signal to the main control.

3
Loose ribbon cable

The flat ribbon cable between the keypad and the control board has worked loose or is damaged.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the dryer or shut off the breaker for 5 minutes, then power it back on and try a Timed Dry cycle.
  2. Press each button on the console one at a time and look for one that feels stuck, mushy, or doesn't click back up.
  3. If a button is sticky, clean around it with a damp microfiber cloth (no spray cleaners directly on the console).
  4. Open the top console (typically two screws at the back) and reseat the ribbon cable between the user interface and the main control board.
  5. If the cable is reseated and a button still reads stuck, replace the user interface / keypad assembly.
  6. If symptoms persist with a known-good UI, replace the main electronic control board.
