Samsung Dishwasher 1E / IE — Filter clogged / heater fault
Samsung Dishwasher · Error code 1E
What 1E Means
On Waterwall models, 1E (also shown as IE) means water is not passing through the filter — the fine filter is clogged. On rotary-spray models the same code can indicate a high-temperature heater error.
Symptoms
- 1E or IE on display
- Cycle stops with standing water
- Dishes come out dirty
- Wash spray weak or absent
Common Causes
Food debris, grease, glass shards blocking the fine mesh under the lower spray arm.
Debris past the filter lodged in the circulation pump inlet.
Heating element failed or wiring fault triggers high-temp heater fault.
Thermistor reads out of range and trips the heater protection.
How to Fix It
- Power off at the breaker for 1 minute, restore power and try a Normal cycle to confirm the code returns.
- Pull the lower rack and remove the filter assembly (twist counter-clockwise on most models).
- Rinse the fine and coarse filters under hot water with a soft brush; clear the sump opening of debris.
- Reinstall the filter — make sure it is fully seated and locked or the dishwasher will throw codes.
- Run a Self Clean / hot rinse with no dishes to verify the code clears.
- If code persists on a rotary model, test the heater for continuity (~10–40 ohms) and the thermistor; replace if open/shorted.
