What E3 Means

E3 means the indoor fan motor is not running at the commanded speed — the board expects a certain RPM feedback and is not seeing it.

Symptoms

  • Weak or no airflow from the indoor head
  • Unit stops
  • E3 on the display

Common Causes

Obstructed or dirty blower wheel

A filthy blower wheel or jammed fan can't reach speed.

Failed indoor fan motor

The DC fan motor or its feedback has failed.

Loose fan motor connector

A loose plug at the motor or board.

How to Fix It

  1. Power off and clean the filters and blower wheel — a clogged blower is a common cause.
  2. Check that the fan spins freely by hand.
  3. Inspect the fan motor connector at the control board.
  4. If the fan still won't reach speed, the fan motor likely needs replacement.
