MrCool Mini-Split E1 — Indoor/Outdoor Communication Error

MrCool Mini-Split · Error code E1

What E1 Means

E1 means the indoor head and outdoor unit have lost communication with each other. On MrCool DIY and other Midea-platform units this is most often a wiring or connection fault on the signal wire between the two units.

Symptoms

  • Unit stops cooling/heating
  • Indoor display shows E1
  • Outdoor unit not running

Common Causes

1
Loose or miswired communication wire

The control/signal wire (often terminal S or 2/3) between indoor and outdoor is loose, reversed, or corroded. #1 cause on DIY installs.

2
Failed indoor or outdoor control board

A PCB on either end has failed.

3
Voltage/power problem

Low or unstable supply voltage to the outdoor unit.

How to Fix It

  1. Turn off power at the breaker before touching wiring.
  2. Check the communication/signal wire at both the indoor and outdoor terminal blocks — confirm each numbered terminal matches end to end and the connections are tight.
  3. Inspect for corrosion or nicked wire, especially on DIY quick-connect line sets.
  4. Confirm the outdoor unit has proper voltage. If wiring is correct and power is good, suspect a control board.
