Maytag Dryer F29 — Moisture Sensor Open / Disconnected

Maytag Dryer · Error code F29

What F29 Means

The control sees an open circuit at the moisture sensor strips. Auto-sensing cycles cannot determine load dryness.

Symptoms

  • F29 displayed
  • Auto cycles run for minimum time only
  • Clothes come out very wet
  • Sensing light stays on or off abnormally

Common Causes

1
Disconnected wires at sensor strips

Push-on terminals slid off after vibration or service.

2
Broken moisture sensor

Strip cracked or sensor harness severed.

3
Damaged harness

Wire pinched by front panel during reassembly.

4
ACU sensing input failed

Rare.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the dryer and remove the front panel/toe kick to access the back of the sensor strips.
  2. Confirm both push-on terminals are firmly seated on the sensor.
  3. Measure continuity from the sensor terminals back to the ACU connector — should be a clean low-resistance path.
  4. Repair or replace the harness if open.
  5. If wiring is intact, replace the moisture sensor.
  6. Reassemble and run an auto-dry cycle to verify.
