What Sud Means

The washer detected too much foam and entered a 2-hour suds-reducing routine. Usually a detergent type/dose issue, not a hardware fault.

Non-HE detergent

Regular detergent makes 2-3x the foam of HE — never use it in a front-load or HE top-load.

Too much HE detergent

Even HE soap over-foams if dosed past the manufacturer line — 1-2 tbsp is plenty for a normal load.

Soft water amplifies suds

Soft water dramatically increases foam — cut dosage in half.

Detergent residue in tub/dispenser

Buildup from years of over-dosing keeps releasing foam every cycle.

Clogged drain or pump filter
