LG Washer nP — No current detected at heater

LG Washer · Error code nP

What nP Means

On WashTower and combo units, nP indicates the control board sees zero current flowing to the heater — usually a household wiring / outlet issue rather than a washer fault.

Symptoms

  • nP on the display
  • Cycle aborts when heat is requested
  • Cold cycles may complete
  • Often appears after install on a new outlet

Common Causes

1
Outlet wired incorrectly

240V combo/WashTower needs a properly wired 240V receptacle matching the rating plate.

2
Tripped or weak breaker

Half of a double-pole breaker tripped — heater gets only 120V instead of 240V.

3
Loose terminal block at washer

Wires under the cover are loose — only one leg of 240V is live.

4
Failed heater or harness

Open heating element means zero current — same symptom as no power.

5
Power surge or unstable supply

Recent surge stressed wiring.

How to Fix It

  1. Turn off the dryer/combo breaker for at least 10 seconds, then back on.
  2. Verify the cord is fully seated in the wall outlet.
  3. With a multimeter, measure across the outlet hot legs — should read 240V (208V in some commercial buildings).
  4. If only 120V is present, reset both halves of the double-pole breaker; if still 120V, call an electrician.
  5. Unplug the unit, pull off the rear terminal block cover, and check that all lugs are torqued tight and not burned.
  6. If wiring is solid and 240V is present at the cord, suspect the heating element or board.
  7. If nP persists after wiring is verified, call for service.
