What FF Means

FF indicates the washer is frozen — water in the fill hose, drain hose, or drain pump has iced up and won't move. Common after the unit sits in cold weather (garage, vacation home).

Symptoms

  • FF on the display
  • No water enters during fill
  • Won't drain
  • Pump runs but moves no water

Common Causes

Frozen drain pump

Residual water in the pump body iced over.

Frozen drain hose

Trapped water in a low spot in the drain hose froze.

Frozen supply hose

Water in the inlet hose between the wall and washer froze.

Frozen inlet valve

Ice inside the solenoid valve blocks the fill.

How to Fix It

  1. Move the washer to a warmer room if possible, or warm the laundry area above freezing.
  2. Pour 1-2 gallons of warm water (122-140°F / 50-60°C) into the drum, close the door, and wait 1-2 hours to thaw the pump.
  3. Wrap the supply hose at the back with a towel soaked in warm water; replace as it cools.
  4. Wrap the drain hose the same way along its full length.
  5. Open the drain pump filter (lower front panel) over a shallow pan; if water flows freely, the pump is thawed.
  6. Run a Spin Only cycle to confirm the pump moves water.
  7. Before next winter: disconnect hoses and drain the pump if the washer will sit unheated.
