LG Washer F02 — Motor circuit fault
LG Washer · Error code F02
What F02 Means
F02 indicates a problem in the motor drive circuit — the control board, the inverter section, or the motor harness/connector. Often requires component-level diagnosis.
Symptoms
- F02 on the display
- Drum will not turn at all
- Cycle aborts immediately after door lock
- Sometimes burning smell from rear of unit
Common Causes
Stator harness rubbed through against the cabinet.
MOSFETs or IGBTs on the drive board failed shorted or open.
Burned winding pulls excess current and trips the protection circuit.
Bad RPS feedback can read as a motor circuit fault.
Board-level issue when the inverter is integrated.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the washer and trip the breaker — leave for 10 minutes to bleed capacitors.
- Pull the washer out, remove the rear access panel.
- Inspect the harness from the control board to the stator — look for chafing, burn marks, melted insulator.
- Unplug and reseat every connector on both ends.
- Test the stator: ~5-15 Ω between each pair of phase windings (model-dependent); huge difference between any pair = bad stator.
- Look at the main / inverter board for burned components, swollen caps, brown spots.
- Replace the rotor position sensor as the cheapest first part; if no change, the board or stator is bad — call service.
