LG Washer EE — EEPROM / main control board memory error

LG Washer · Error code EE

What EE Means

The EEPROM (the memory chip on the main control board that stores cycle data) is reading corrupt or inconsistent. Sometimes clears with power cycles; if persistent, the board is failing.

Symptoms

  • EE on the display at startup
  • Washer beeps and refuses to start any cycle
  • Buttons unresponsive
  • Code returns after every power cycle

Common Causes

1
Corrupt EEPROM memory

A voltage event or firmware glitch left the memory in a bad state.

2
Power surge damage

Nearby lightning or grid surge stressed the control board.

3
Loose harness to control board

Connector backed off the PCB.

4
Failed main control board

Hardware end-of-life — needs replacement.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the washer for 10 minutes (a full discharge, not 30 seconds) and plug back in.
  2. If EE persists, unplug again for 30 minutes. EEPROM resets sometimes need a longer drain.
  3. Run the built-in test mode: with washer empty and off, press Spin Speed + Soil Level together, then press Power. The buzzer should sound twice if entering test mode.
  4. If test mode entry fails or EE returns immediately, the board is bad.
  5. Pull the washer out, remove the top panel, and reseat every connector on the main control board.
  6. Inspect the board for scorching, swollen capacitors, or burn smell.
  7. If EE remains after a clean reseat, replace the main control board.
  8. Consider plugging the washer into a surge protector after the repair.
