LG Washer E1 — Leak detected (variant of AE on older models)
LG Washer · Error code E1
What E1 Means
E1 is not an official LG washer error code — it does not appear in LG's washer error code lists. A display read as 'E1' on an LG washer is usually the IE (shown as 1E) water inlet error: the washer is not filling within the expected time because of closed supply valves, kinked fill hoses, or clogged inlet filters. The leak-detected code on LG washers is AE (see that code if you have water under the machine); E1 means leakage only on LG dishwashers.
Symptoms
- E1 on the display
- Cycle stops; sometimes mid-spin
- Water visible under washer or in base tray
- Click of float switch audible from underneath
Common Causes
The washer cannot fill within the expected time.
Hoses crushed against the wall restrict flow.
Sediment in the small screens where the hoses meet the washer blocks flow.
A failed valve solenoid or water-level sensor reports an out-of-range reading to the control board.
How to Fix It
- Confirm both water supply valves behind the washer are fully open.
- Unplug the washer and check the fill hoses for kinks or crushing against the wall.
- Close the valves, disconnect the fill hoses at the washer, and clean the small inlet filter screens with a soft brush.
- Reconnect the hoses, open the valves, restore power, and run a short cycle.
- If the code returns with good water flow, the inlet valve or water-level (pressure) sensor may need testing/replacement — call for service if you are not comfortable with a multimeter.
- Note: if you actually see water under the washer or get an AE code, follow the AE leak-detected procedure instead.
