Keurig Coffee Maker Prime Error — pump cannot draw water

Keurig Coffee Maker · Error code Prime Error

What Prime Error Means

Shown when the brewer's pump fails to draw water from the reservoir into the internal tank — usually an air lock, blocked intake screen, or failing pump.

Symptoms

  • 'Prime' or 'Not Ready' on display
  • Pump cycles but no water moves
  • No water dispensed after pressing brew
  • Loud pump noise without flow

Common Causes

1
Air trapped in pump

Common after running reservoir dry

2
Clogged reservoir intake screen

Debris or scale blocking the small mesh at the bottom of the reservoir

3
Failed pump

Vibratory pump worn out

4
Cracked internal tubing

Pump sucking air instead of water

How to Fix It

  1. Remove the reservoir; clean the small intake screen at the bottom of the brewer with a clean toothbrush under warm water
  2. Refill the reservoir and reseat firmly
  3. Burp the unit: invert over a sink, tap the bottom firmly for 30 seconds, set upright and try again
  4. Run a water-only cycle to re-prime the pump
  5. If still failing, descale to clear scale from internal lines
  6. If no flow after descale + burping, the pump has failed and the brewer typically needs replacement
