What Not Ready Means

The brewer is heating water to brew temperature and isn't ready to start a cycle yet. Normal on first power-up or after Auto Off — typically clears in 1-3 minutes. If it persists more than 5 minutes, a heater fault is likely.

Symptoms

  • 'Not Ready' on display
  • Heating sounds from brewer
  • Buttons don't respond
  • Clears after a minute or two

Common Causes

Initial warm-up

Normal after power-on or wake from Auto Off

Reservoir just refilled with cold water

Adding cold water mid-session triggers re-heat

Failing heater

If 'Not Ready' never clears, heater or thermistor is failing

How to Fix It

  1. Wait 2-3 minutes for the brewer to finish heating
  2. Listen for the heater clicking off and the ready light
  3. If 'Not Ready' persists past 5 minutes, unplug for 5 minutes and retry
  4. If still stuck after a reset, descale to remove scale insulating the heater
  5. If still stuck after descale, the heater has failed
