Error 2 Moderate Easy DIY

iRobot Robot Vacuum Error 2 — Brushes / extractors cannot turn

iRobot Robot Vacuum · Error code Error 2

What Error 2 Means

The main brushes (bristle/beater bar) or rubber extractors are jammed and the motor cannot rotate them.

Symptoms

  • 'Error 2' voice prompt
  • Robot stops mid-clean
  • Brush doesn't spin when you press CLEAN
  • Visible hair/string wound around brush ends

Common Causes

1
Hair or string wound around brush bearings

Long hair and thread wrap around the yellow/orange end caps and seize the brush.

2
Debris jammed in brush cavity

Coins, large debris, or carpet fibers wedged between brush and housing.

3
Worn or damaged brush bearings/end caps

Yellow bearing caps wear out and bind against the brush axle.

4
Failed brush motor or gearbox

Motor module under the brush cavity has failed.

How to Fix It

  1. Remove the brush guard or extractor frame (pull tabs or slide release depending on model).
  2. Lift out both brushes / extractors.
  3. Remove the colored end caps and clean all hair and debris from the bearings.
  4. Inspect the brush cavity and motor coupling for stuck debris.
  5. Reinstall brushes and verify they turn freely by hand.
  6. Press CLEAN and listen — brushes should spin smoothly. If Error 2 returns, replace bearings/caps or the brush motor module.
