What Error 14 Means

Robot cannot detect that the dustbin is properly installed.

Symptoms

  • 'Error 14, reinstall Roomba's bin'
  • Robot won't start cleaning
  • Bin may seem seated but error persists

Common Causes

1
Bin not fully seated

Bin not pushed all the way in until it clicks.

2
Dirty bin contacts

Metal contacts on bin and inside the bay are dirty or corroded.

3
Damaged bin latch or tab

Plastic tab on bin broken so it doesn't engage the sensor switch.

How to Fix It

  1. Remove the bin completely.
  2. Inspect the metal contacts on both the bin and inside the robot bay — wipe with a dry cloth or pencil eraser.
  3. Check that all plastic latches and tabs on the bin are intact.
  4. Reinstall the bin and press firmly until it clicks.
  5. If error persists with a known-good bin, the internal bin switch in the robot has failed.
