GE Microwave F11 — Shorted temperature probe

GE Microwave · Error code F11

What F11 Means

F11 indicates the meat / food temperature probe reads as shorted (resistance near zero) when plugged in. The probe-cook feature is blocked but standard cooking still works.

Symptoms

  • F11 only when probe is plugged in
  • Probe-cook ends immediately
  • Probe reads 'HI' or maxes out
  • Time-cook works normally

Common Causes

1
Failed (shorted) temperature probe

Most common — replace the probe.

2
Moisture in the probe jack

Water from cleaning shorts the contacts.

3
Pinched probe cable

Cable insulation has worn through against the cavity edge.

4
Control board input failure

Only after probe, jack, and cable are verified.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the microwave.
  2. Remove the probe and let the jack air-dry for a few hours if recently cleaned.
  3. Measure the probe with a multimeter — a near-zero reading confirms it's shorted.
  4. Replace the probe with the OEM part for your model.
  5. Inspect the cable for cuts; replace if damaged.
  6. Restore power and run a probe cook to verify F11 is gone.
