GE Dishwasher 888 — Display Self-Test / Demo
GE Dishwasher · Error code 888
What 888 Means
All segments lit ('888' or all icons on) is normally a display self-test at power-up. If it stays on, the unit may be in showroom/demo mode or the user-interface board has failed.
Symptoms
- All segments stay lit on display
- Buttons don't respond
- Cycle won't start
Common Causes
Floor-model demo mode never turned off after delivery.
Console electronics failed and all outputs are stuck on.
Cable between control and console partially unseated.
How to Fix It
- Power-cycle at the breaker for 1 minute, restore power, and watch the boot-up self-test (~5 seconds is normal).
- Consult the model's Owner's Manual for the demo-mode exit sequence (often Heated Dry + Start held 5 seconds).
- If the display stays solid, remove the inner door panel and reseat the ribbon cable between the UI and main control.
- Replace the UI/console board if buttons still don't respond.
