Frigidaire Microwave F2 — Shorted thermistor / over-temp sensor
Frigidaire Microwave · Error code F2
What F2 Means
F2 means the control sees the cavity (or magnetron) temperature sensor reading short-circuit or out-of-range high. It can also indicate a true over-temperature condition.
Symptoms
- F2 on display
- Cooking stops mid-cycle
- Cavity feels unusually hot before fault
- Cooling fan may run continuously
Common Causes
Sensor element or its wiring is shorted to chassis.
Blocked vent, failed cooling fan, or cooking empty triggered a real over-temp.
Insulation worn through against a sharp edge.
Board misreads a good sensor.
How to Fix It
- Unplug and let the microwave cool for 30 minutes.
- Verify vents (top, rear) are not blocked and the cooling fan spins freely.
- Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at room temp; compare to tech-sheet spec.
- Inspect the sensor harness for pinch points or melted insulation.
- Replace the thermistor if shorted; repair harness if damaged.
- If sensor and harness check good, replace the control board.
