Bosch Refrigerator E2 — Freezer Compartment Sensor Fault

Bosch Refrigerator · Error code E2

What E2 Means

The freezer-cavity temperature sensor is reading open, shorted, or out of range. The control cannot reliably manage freezer temperature and may force the compressor to run continuously.

Symptoms

  • E2 on the display
  • Freezer too warm or building frost
  • Compressor runs nonstop
  • Ice maker stops producing

Common Causes

1
Failed freezer thermistor

Most common cause; sensor element degrades with thermal cycling.

2
Connector iced over or corroded

Defrost water can wick into the sensor connector and corrode pins.

3
Broken wire at the evaporator cover

Wire damaged when the rear panel was last removed.

4
Main control board input failure

Sensor input on the PCB is damaged.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the unit for 5 minutes and see if the code clears on power-up.
  2. Empty the freezer enough to remove the rear evaporator cover.
  3. If heavy frost is present, manually defrost with the unit unplugged before testing.
  4. Locate the freezer thermistor clipped near the evaporator coil.
  5. Inspect connector for corrosion; reseat or repair as needed.
  6. Ohm-test the thermistor against the chart in the tech sheet behind the toe-kick.
  7. Replace the thermistor if out of spec; replace the control board only if wiring and sensor are good.
