Bosch Dryer E05 — NTC Temperature Sensor Fault

Bosch Dryer · Error code E05

What E05 Means

The drum or air NTC (thermistor) is reading out of range — either open, shorted, or disconnected. Control disables heat as a safety measure.

Symptoms

  • No heat during cycle
  • Cycle ends early
  • E05 appears within minutes of starting
  • Erratic drying performance

Common Causes

1
Failed NTC thermistor

Sensor has drifted out of specification — typically reads 50-100k ohms at room temp on a good sensor.

2
Disconnected sensor harness

Connector at the sensor or main board has worked loose from vibration.

3
Damaged wiring to sensor

Chafed or pinched wire causes intermittent open.

4
Failed main control board input

Less common — board's ADC channel has failed.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the dryer.
  2. Remove the back panel to access the heater assembly and air ducting.
  3. Locate the NTC sensor (typically mounted on the heater housing or blower outlet).
  4. Inspect the wiring harness and reseat the connector firmly.
  5. Test the NTC with a multimeter for resistance at room temperature — replace if open, shorted, or wildly out of spec.
  6. Inspect wire harness for chafing along the entire run to the control board.
  7. If sensor and wiring test good, replace the main control board.
  8. Reassemble and run a heat cycle to verify temperature stays in normal range.
