What Fd Means

On Whirlpool all-in-one combination washer/dryer units, 'Fd' indicates a fault in the drying system — usually heater, blower, or condenser cooling water flow.

Symptoms

  • Wash finishes but dry phase aborts
  • 'Fd' on display after dry portion of a Wash+Dry cycle
  • Clothes still damp at end
  • No heat felt at the drum during dry

How to Fix It

  4. Listen for the blower during a dry cycle — silence means a failed blower or motor.
  5. If the heater never warms and the blower runs, ohm-test the dry heater element.
