Whirlpool Washer F8E1 / LF / Lo FL — Long Fill (Low Water Flow)
Whirlpool Washer · Error code F8E1
What F8E1 Means
The washer didn't sense enough water entering the tub in the allowed time. On most Whirlpool washers this can also display as LF or 'Lo FL'. The water valves are commanded open but flow is restricted or absent.
Most Likely Fix
No water detected / long fill
Tools: screwdriver, nut driver, pliers
Diagnose first: Check water supply valves are fully open and inlet screens aren't clogged with sediment BEFORE replacing the valve. Low water pressure also triggers this.

Symptoms
- Washer adds water very slowly or not at all
- Display shows F8 E1, LF, or Lo FL after about 8-10 minutes
- Hot or cold side noticeably weaker than the other tap
- Inlet screens visible debris when removed
Common Causes
The single most common cause — partial open faucet behind the washer.
Mineral/scale debris in the small screens at the back inlet ports of the washer.
Hose bent behind the unit.
Solenoid coil open or valve mechanically stuck closed.
Pressure under 20 psi will trip this code.
How to Fix It
- Turn both hot and cold supply valves fully open.
- Unplug the washer, disconnect both fill hoses at the back, and inspect the screens — clean or replace if clogged.
- Reconnect hoses, run a quick wash, and watch the fill rate.
- Test each solenoid coil on the inlet valve for continuity (typically 500-1500Ω).
- Replace the water inlet valve assembly if a coil is open or the valve doesn't open electrically.
- If still failing, verify household water pressure with a gauge.
