Whirlpool Refrigerator F8 E3 — Ice Maker Optics Fault
Whirlpool Refrigerator · Error code F8 E3
What F8 E3 Means
The ice level optics (emitter/receiver beams that detect ice level in the bin) are not communicating with the control or are obstructed. The ice maker will not call for fill.
Symptoms
- Flashing 'F' on display
- Ice maker stops producing
- Status LED on emitter board blinks abnormally
- Bin is empty but no fill cycles
Common Causes
Ice cube wedged between emitter and receiver.
Emitter or receiver board failed (W10757851 family).
Connector unseated at one of the optics boards.
How to Fix It
- Empty and remove the ice bin. Verify nothing is between the two small black boards on either side of the bin opening.
- Power-cycle the refrigerator for 5 minutes. Watch the emitter board LED — it should be solid or blink in a normal pattern.
- Reseat the harnesses on both optics boards.
- With the beam unblocked, the receiver LED should stay solid. If it flashes continuously, replace the optics board pair.
- If optics test good and harness is intact, replace the main control board.
