What F3 E4 Means

The evaporator (coil) temperature sensor is reading open or shorted. The board uses this sensor to decide when to terminate the defrost cycle, so a failure causes either skipped defrosts (icing) or runaway defrost heater operation.

Symptoms

  • Flashing 'F' on display
  • Ice buildup on the freezer rear panel
  • Warm fresh food compartment from blocked airflow
  • Defrost cycle runs too long or not at all
