What E-28 Means

Older-style display of a shorted oven temperature sensor circuit. Resistance reads very low versus the expected ~1080 ohms at room temp.

Symptoms

  • E-28 at startup or when bake is selected
  • Oven refuses to heat
  • May alternate with E-27

How to Fix It

  1. Cut power at the breaker.
  2. Unplug the temperature sensor and measure resistance — far below 1080 ohms confirms a short.
  3. Replace the sensor if shorted.
  4. If a new sensor still reads short at the PCB, inspect the harness for damage where it routes through the cavity wall.
