Maytag Washer F9E1 — Long drain / drain pump fault
Maytag Washer · Error code F9E1
What F9E1 Means
The washer did not drain to the expected level within the allowed time (typically ~8–10 minutes). Most common Maytag error.
Symptoms
- F9E1 on display
- Water left in tub at end of cycle
- Wet clothes after spin
- Pump runs continuously
Common Causes
Sock, coin, lint, or hair plugging pump intake.
Hose pinched behind washer or standpipe clog.
Standpipe over ~96" or below 30" causes siphon/back-pressure issues.
Pump impeller seized or motor open.
Underwire or coin in pump housing.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the washer.
- Open the front access panel (front-load) or tip back (top-load) and locate the pump filter.
- Place towels — water WILL spill — and unscrew the filter; clear debris.
- Pull the washer out and inspect drain hose for kinks, crushed sections, or clogs.
- Verify standpipe is 30–96" high and not sealed airtight to hose.
- Spin pump impeller by hand — should turn freely; if seized, replace pump.
- Test pump motor for continuity (~10–20Ω); replace if open.
- Reassemble and run a Drain + Spin to verify.
