Generac Generator 1800 — Low Battery

Generac Generator · Error code 1800

What 1800 Means

Battery voltage dropped below the acceptable threshold (typically <12.0V at rest or <9V during cranking). The controller flagged the warning so the next outage doesn't catch you with a no-start.

Symptoms

  • Yellow battery warning on Evolution panel
  • 1800 alarm
  • Slow cranking on weekly exercise
  • Battery icon flashing

Common Causes

1
Aged battery

Generator batteries last ~3-5 years; replace on schedule even if it looks OK.

2
Failed battery charger

Trickle charger in the controller stopped charging.

3
Loose or corroded battery terminals

Voltage drop across corrosion shows up as low battery.

4
Cold weather + weak battery

CCA drops in winter — marginal batteries fail first cold snap.

How to Fix It

  1. Measure battery at rest with a multimeter — should be 12.5V+. Below 12.0V = replace.
  2. With unit in OFF, measure charger output at the battery terminals — should read ~13.6-14.0V. If 12V or less, charger has failed.
  3. Clean battery terminals with a wire brush, reapply dielectric grease, torque to spec.
  4. Replace battery with a 26R Group, 525+ CCA, every 3-5 years preventively.
