tC Minor Easy DIY

GE Refrigerator tC — TurboCool active (not a fault)

GE Refrigerator · Error code tC

What tC Means

TurboCool is engaged — the fresh-food compartment is intentionally running at maximum cooling for about 8 hours to recover from a big grocery load or door left open. Not an error.

Symptoms

  • tC showing on dispenser
  • Compressor running continuously
  • Fridge feels unusually cold
  • tC times out after 8 hours

Common Causes

1
TurboCool button pressed (often accidentally)

Kids or a forearm on the dispenser pad can engage it without you noticing.

2
Auto-triggered after long door-open event

Some models engage TurboCool automatically when fridge temp spikes.

3
Stuck membrane switch

Rare — if tC re-engages instantly after cancel, the dispenser pad may be stuck.

How to Fix It

  1. Press the TurboCool button again to cancel — display will return to normal temp.
  2. Let the unit normalize over 4–6 hours.
  3. If tC re-engages on its own, inspect the dispenser membrane pad for a stuck button or moisture intrusion.
  4. Replace the dispenser control panel if a button is permanently shorted.
