Amana Refrigerator PO — Power Outage Alert

Amana Refrigerator · Error code PO

What PO Means

The refrigerator detected that power was lost long enough for the freezer compartment to rise above a safe food storage temperature. The display flashes PO until acknowledged.

Symptoms

  • PO flashing on display
  • Audible alert beeping
  • Ice in ice bin may be clumped or melted
  • Freezer temperature warmer than setpoint

Common Causes

1
Recent power outage

Utility outage or breaker trip lasted long enough to warm the freezer.

2
Loose power cord

Plug partially backed out of the receptacle or worked loose during cleaning.

3
Tripped GFCI/breaker

Shared circuit tripped and reset on its own.

4
Brownout or voltage sag

Low line voltage caused the control to register a power loss.

How to Fix It

  1. Press any button (or the Measured Fill / OK button) to silence the alarm and clear PO.
  2. Inspect frozen food — any item that thawed and is above 40°F should be discarded.
  3. Check ice in the bin; if clumped, dump it and let the maker produce fresh cubes.
  4. Confirm the plug is fully seated and the outlet is not on a GFCI that nuisance-trips.
  5. Verify breaker is fully ON (flip OFF then ON if it feels spongy).
  6. Monitor freezer temp for 24 hours to confirm it holds at 0°F.
